FEA Simulation of a High Speed Trolley Impact Event

This capability demonstration concerns the impact of a moving trolley into a stationary barrier.
The trolley was treated as a rigid body. The protective barrier was modelled using a strain rate and temperature-dependent material model (Johnson-Cook), with a strain rate-dependent critical plastic strain failure criterion. The Johnson-Cook constitutive equation is shown below. In the accompanying video the barrier is seen to fracture as the critical plastic strain criterion is exceeded.
This short case study demonstrates our ability to model transient and highly non-linear events.
