Optimisation of Exhaust Baffle Components via CFD Modelling
Computational Fluid Dynamics
MICROTEX® is made by Fibretech’s Melt Overflow Rapid Solidification Casting technology to produce a non-woven metallic textile material for use in exhaust system baffles. The material has two important functions; (1) it provides durable thermal insulation around the perforated baffle pipe and (2), it contributes to noise attenuation over the high and low audible frequency range. In an effort to continually improve their products, Fibretech Ltd. have enlisted the help of Double Precision Consultancy in order to gain a deeper understanding of the temperature and flow fields that exist within their (closed) melt overflow chamber, with a view to optimising these conditions for a number of new and innovative applications.
DPC consultants have been on-site at Fibretech Ltd. to deploy a custom-built tool for measurement of gas velocities and temperatures within the processing chamber for validation of the corresponding CFD models.
Our CFD models are currently being used to help optimise the melt overflow collection chamber.
